The Resurrection of Christ is “a real event, with manifestations that were historically verified”. It “is the crowning truth of our faith in Christ” and, with his cross, “an essential part of the Paschal Mystery”. The empty tomb “is not a direct proof”, but it “was still an essential sign for all”. The risen body “is the same body that had been tortured and crucified”, and it has “the new properties of a glorious body”. Since “no one was an eyewitness”, the event “remains at the very heart of the mystery of faith as something that transcends and surpasses history”.
